The tourist city of Pokhara would soon dazzle with solar street lights donated by by China's Linzi city, officials have said.
According to Jhalak Ram Adhikari, executive officer of the Pokhara Sub-metropolitan City, the office is planning to install solar lights in major parts of the city.
"Once the lights are fitted, it would help control night-time criminal activities," said Adhikari. The authority will start the installation work after the necessary materials to install the solar lights such as solar panels and poles reach Pokhara in the next three months, he added.
The sub-metropolis itself has allocated Rs 37.9 million for installing solar lights whereas the authority of Linzi city would provide 2,000 poles and solar panels. Likewise, the locals will also make contributions in line with the local body's concept to promote public-private partnership, said Adhikari.
Pokhara is getting the support after establishing sister city relation with Linzi. Solar street lights would be installed from Pokhara's main entry point Bijaypur to Hallanchowk. Similarly, the road section from Prithivichowk to Mahedra Bridge and Sidhartha Chowk to Srijana Chowk and Mustang Chowk is in the priority of the government, said officer Adhikari.
