Maghe Sankranti is the Nepali popular festival celebrated on 1st of Magh every year according to Bikram Sambat Nepali calender. 1st day of every month is Sankranti in Nepali but this maghe Sankranti has some significant importance in Nepalese religion and culture. Maghe Sankranti falls on January bringing an end to the gloomy days of winter and celebrated hoping for spring season to come soon. On this day, the sun leaves its southernmost position and takes off for its northward journey. People participate in holy bating in nearby ponds, rivers and lakes and taking auspicious foods like laddoo, ghee, sweet potatoes. Bagmati river at kathmandu, Narayani and Devghat at Chitwan, Triveni Dham at Nawalparasi, Ridi at Kaligandaki and Sun Koshi at Dolalghat are the holiest rivers for the celebration of this festival. Kirat, Maithali and Tharu community of Nepal celebrate this festival as the start of Happy New Year 2018 with the great importance.
