Deepak Raj Joshi of has been appointed the new CEO of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB). He will lead the country's national tourism organization for four years.
A meeting of the board of directors of NTB held on Thursday selected Joshi for the post. A selection committee had recommended the names of Joshi, Gyanendra Ratna Tuladhar and Gyaneswor Lal Mahato for the post on the basis of their presentation and interview held on Sunday and Monday.
“We selected Joshi based on the recommendations of the selection committee," Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, chairman of NTB, said.
Besides these three candidates, Hari Sarmah, Bishnu GC, Narayan Krishna Pradhan, Raghu Bista, Bhumi Lama and Lok Bahadur Khatri had appeared for the interview. However, three shortlisted candidates -- Subash Nirola, Hum Gurung and Shiva Saran Thapa - hadn't responded to NTB's invitation for interview.
The selection committee was led by NTB Board Member Ghanendra Shrestha. Other members of the committee were Ghanashyam Upadhyaya, joint secretary of tourism ministry, NTB Board Member Rajendra Sapkota and two experts -- one each from the government and the private sector.
“At this time, the confidence of tourism industry is very low. My utmost priority will be on raising confidence of the industry. For this, I will bring all players of the industry together,” he said adding, “We have huge challenges, but I have plans for faster revival of this industry."
Publishing a notice on December 1, NTB had invited all shortlisted applicants for interview on December 13 and 14. The post of CEO was lying vacant since Prachanda Man Shrestha retired from the post on October 31, 2011.
